State Route 293 (SR 293) is a state highway in Humboldt County, Nevada, Humboldt County, Nevada. It connects the Kings River Valley to U.S. Route 95 (Nevada), U.S. Route 95 at the town of Orovada, Nevada, Orovada. Route description SR 293 begins at a Nevada Department of Transportation monument in the north-central portion of Humboldt County, just a few miles east of the Kings River (Nevada), Kings River. From there, the route heads east through a mountain pass and then southward. After crossing the Quinn River, SR 293 heads eastward through the Quinn River Valley to its terminus at US 95 at the town of Orovada. History The road first appears on official state maps 1968, although it was not labeled as being part of Nevada's numbered highway system at that time. Orovada is a census-designated place in Humboldt County, Nevada. The population was 155 at the 2010 census. History The first permanent settlement at Orovada was made in 1918. The name is a combination of ''oro'' (Spanish "gold") and Nevada. A post office has been in operation at Orovada since 1920. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the Orovada CDP has an area of , all land. U.S. Route 95 runs through the CDP, leading south to Winnemucca and north to the Oregon state line at McDermitt. Climate According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Orovada has a cold semi-arid climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps. Humboldt County is a county in the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 17,285. It is a largely rural county that is sparsely populated with the only major city being Winnemucca which has a population of 8,431. The Kings River is a tributary of the Quinn River, about long, in northwestern Nevada and south-central Oregon in the United States. It drains a remote arid area of the northwestern Great Basin. Description The river rises in northern Humboldt County, Nevada, west of Disaster Peak in The Granites, part of the Trout Creek Mountains, near the Oregon state line. The Quinn River, once known as the Queen River, is an intermittent river, approximately long, in the desert of northwestern Nevada in the United States. It drains an enclosed basin inside the larger Great Basin. It rises in northeastern Humboldt County, on the west side of the Santa Rosa Range, just south of the Oregon state line. Its course flows southwest, through the main Nevada lands of the Fort McDermitt Paiute and Shoshone Tribes and then south and southwest, receiving the Kings River flowing south from Kings River Valley.
